High-level side-event on Safety of Christians, in particular in the Middle East. SAVE THE DATE.

OSCE Ministerial Council in Vienna, 7-8 December 2017

Vienna (OTS) - Co-hosted by H.E. Mr. Péter Szijjártó, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Hungary, and H.E. Mr. Sergey Lavrov, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation.

The event takes place on 7 December from 17.00 to 17.45 in the Teesalon (Mixed Zone), Hofburg.

The purpose of the event is to put the issue of the safety of Christians and members of other religions onto the agenda for the international community. Intolerance and discrimination against Christians, as well as the suffering of other populations, has increased precisely in a number of countries where terrorism and extremism flourish. The persecution of the peaceful members of various religions in the Middle East and elsewhere are not confined to Christians: all sections of the population suffer from conflicts. We must reflect together on what to do to protect the human rights of members of communities, which have existed for 2000 years, since the time of Christ. The event is also a forum to showcase what individual countries can do for the survival of Christian communities in times of persecution.
